The TCGA Junior Tour had another good tournament today at The Links at Hiawatha Landing. Players not only had to battle the tough course conditions, but the heat as well. Temperatures reached over 90 degrees during the afternoon. Overall, 51 players competed and despite the weather, put up some very good numbers.
In the 10-12 age group, Hogan Bendert won his second straight tournament! Hogan shot a 42 on the back nine, good enough for a 5 shot win over Zach Sitzman. Zach also had another good showing with his second striaght second place finish. The highlight of Hogan's round was a birdie on the par 4 14th. With this win, Hogan takes a 100 point lead in the Player of the Year Points race.
The 13-15 age group teed off last and had to battle through the heat for a majority of the day. In the end, Richard Pedro was able to beat out his twin brother John Pedro to take medalist honors with an 83. Richard was able to recover after a front nine 44, with a 39 on the back. With some help with a birdie on 11, Richard was able to take home the title on his home course.
Both Pat Milkovich and Brian Legg had just competed in the club championship at The Links at Hiawatha Landing over the holiday weekend. Their course knowledge showed, with both players firing 73 to tie for medalist honors in the 16-18 age group. While Pat had a bogey free 1 under on the front nine, Brian made three birdies to make up two shots on the back nine. After a match of cards, Pat was declared the winner with a par on the Par 4 8th, the number 1 handicap hole.
A special thanks goes out to Bernie Herceg and the entire staff at The Links at Hiawatha Landing. The course was in great shape and the food was delicious! We look forward to seeing everyone this Wednesday at Belden Hill.
